KOYŌ
KOYŌ is a third-generation matcha mill in Uji, Kyoto, milling a single cultivar - Samidori - to order and shipping each tin within days of milling rather than months. We built the storefront that carries that promise, translating a family’s shade-and-stone ritual into a page that reads like a tea ceremony rather than a shop.
We designed and built the experience end to end - a cultivar story that walks through shading, hand-harvest and granite milling, a three-step preparation guide, a letter from the miller tracing every tin back to the Shirakawa field, and a limited, dated ordering panel - all under a shared bilingual type system pulled from Figma.
Challenge & Solution
The challenge was conveying scarcity and freshness for a product that looks, to an unfamiliar eye, like powder in a tin. We answered with process transparency: a spec table for cultivar, shading days, harvest window and milling rate sits beside the story, a paced preparation ritual sets expectations before purchase, and every release is dated by milling week so a sold-out run reads as proof of demand rather than dead stock.
Final Result
The result is a storefront that sells provenance as much as it sells matcha. Visitors leave understanding exactly why a tin costs what it costs, and KOYŌ has a page structure built to introduce each new milling without redesigning the story around it.
